Strings Art"Almost Silent" Art Auction

Panama City POPS Announces Collaborative Effort
with the Visual Arts Center (www.vac.org.cn)

The Panama City POPS Orchestra and the Visual Arts Center have entered into their first collaborative effort in conjunction with the Panama City POPS inaugural Almost Silent Art Auction. The painting, ‘Strings,’ (pictured on the right) by local painter Carl Webb, is the featured work of art on this season’s Panama City POPS Orchestra brochure, posters and program covers. The original artwork will be on display at the Visual Arts Center in downtown Panama City until the finale POPS concert of the season on May 3, 2008 at GCCC. The painting will also be available for viewing during the March 1st concert at Arnold High School. Silent auction bids are currently being accepted online (use the form below).

On May 3rd, following intermission, there will be a "live" auction to complete the sale of the painting. Interested bidders are welcome to call the POPS at 850-785-POPS (7677) for further information and to view the painting at the Visual Arts Center. Both the Panama City POPS Orchestra and the Visual Arts Center hope that this will be an annual collaboration between the two arts organizations.

Webb says that music influences many of his works and refers to ‘Strings’ more as a ‘construction.’ The framed 3-dimensional painting, measuring 35” x 18.5”, is done on mahogany using a mixed media of oil paints, pieces of canvas and actual pieces of wood from musical instruments. According to Webb, this modern structure has “fundamentals to it with timelessness and a style to it that crosses boundaries.” He says there is a very “lively feeling” to it and his use of primary colors has movement, playing on the importance and interaction of colors in his painting. Webb states that “paintings, like music, have a composition, harmony & spatial relationships.”

The Panama City resident for nearly 10 years was born in Leicester, England, and has been painting for 30 years. Webb studied at the Cleveland Institute of Art and now paints full-time, mostly on commissioned work.

Interested bidders are invited to begin their bidding process using the form below. The current high bid is $700.00.
